Intimate Moments
For the past several years I have photographed my multigenerational extended family in our shared home in the Bronx. I am interested in exploring themes of representation specifically related to being black in America. In my photos, I seek to offer unposed, uncontrived, candid images of one black family specifically my own. The intimacy of the domestic space and the fullness of our home allows for images of which are authentic and real. My position as an insider allows me to portray intimate moments that deny the viewer the projection of their fantasies of blackness onto my subjects. I aim to provide an alternative perspective of blackness from that which is disseminated in popular culture.
